I had to be the first one to post in the new forum ! Probably the only time this is gonna happen.
Anyway , to put something somewhat meaningful on here, I think a weekend spent camping , fishing , eating food cooked over an open fire and drinking beer is a great weekend, and is even a good alternative to working on audio projects.
Been fishing the Kankakee river lately, along with a tributary creek that flows into it called Rock Creek.
Rock Creek has been mostly Smallies, with my friends catching some other misc. species . The Kankakee has given me a 20" Long nose Gar , and a 16" Silver Redhorse fish.
Both of these were strange catches for me. I caught them both at the same location , about six months apart. What was strange is that I was fishing with lures , and both times the fish were snagged . The Gar was snagged on the gill, while the redhorse fish was caught on the belly.
Another odd thing , at least to me, was the species of fish that I caught. I caught the Gar first, and was somewhat familiar with what it was, having seen it in pictures. However , the Silver Redhorse fish was kind of surprising. It looks kinda like a sucker fish (picossamus ? Sp) that you might see in someones aquarium. It has a down turned sucker mouth , which I've never seen in a wild fish.
Oh well , I'm done blabbing for now. I guess if anyone else is interested in fishing or camping there will be another post. . . .
